Pre School

Practitioners support the children to know themselves as individuals and to develop their relationships with others, in families and in communities. Learning provides pre-school children with the knowledge, skills and attributes needed to thrive in our interconnected, digital and rapidly changing world.

Summerside Kindergarten enables children and young people to be democratic citizens and active shapers of that world. They are provided with the foundations of a skill set that may in time allow them to engage fully in society and in learning, through the different forms of language, and the range of texts, which society values and finds useful.

Practitioners provide the initial confidence and competence in using numbers which should eventually allow children to solve problems, analyse information and make informed decisions based on calculations.

Practitioners will introduce the children to learning in health and wellbeing so helping them to develop the knowledge and understanding, skills, capabilities and attributes which they will need for mental, emotional, social and physical wellbeing now and in the future.

Our pre-school practitioners ensure children are well-prepared to make a quality transition into primary school. Through a child-centred process, managed by our senior staff collaborating with the receiving primary school, and guided by the Curriculum for Excellence, we enhance the likelihood that the positive impacts of early learning and childcare will last through primary school and beyond.
